Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI): how the tech sector is adapting

Employers play a pivotal role in creating a fairer and more equitable workplace where people can thrive. The tech industry has long struggled to make progress on EDI efforts—whether in terms of workforce diversity, the makeup of boards or the companies to which capital flows.

CIRA works hard every day to build a trusted internet for Canadians. We also work hard to enable a trusted environment for our staff and uphold our status as one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers. EDI is important to us. We are committed to employment equity and encourage anyone who can contribute to the diversification of ideas and perspectives to apply to join our team.

Join us for CIRA’s latest virtual meetup with our guest speaker, Jamile Cruz, an in-demand EDI expert and speaker, recently recognized by The Globe and Mail as a Business Changemaker. We’ve invited Jamile to share insight into the EDI challenges many tech organizations face and speak to the role we all play in catalyzing the mindset and behavior changes required to shape a new tomorrow. A tomorrow based on respect for individuals and recognition of the powerful contributions diversity brings to an organization.

Join us on Wednesday, June 22nd at 2:00 p.m. ET as we discuss why EDI in tech is essential for companies that want to stay competitive in the talent market and relevant.

Register now to attend our virtual event. Attendance is free, but you must RSVP to join.

Why participate?

#1 Get informed: Jamile Cruz will give insight into the relevance of EDI strategies in today’s work climate and share why many tech organizations are struggling to find solutions for discrimination, bias, and underrepresentation in the workplace.

#2 Have your questions answered: we’ve dedicated time to discuss questions you might have. During the meetup, use our Slido tool to pose your questions or upvote those that you wish to see answered.

#3 Q&A with CIRA leaders: CIRA members are invited to stay on for 30 minutes immediately following the discussion for an ask-me-anything segment with Sanita Alias, VP, People Culture and Brand and Amanda Swain, Director of Engineering. Dive deeper into CIRA’s goals on EDI, our support for women on boards, and our backing of programs like the newly created Women in Engineering & IT Program at Carleton University; this is one of the first programs of its kind in Canada, which hopes to help close the gender gap in STEM. Stay tuned as we address your questions, live!
