Battling botnets: A security balancing act

Where does responsibility lie for protecting Canadians from botnets and other malicious cyber threats? What role should the private sector, government, and Canada’s telecommunications providers play in protecting users?

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) recently proposed a new framework that would bring oversight to how internet service providers (ISPs) block traffic suspected of “malicious cyber activity.” What is at stake when it comes to a mandatory or voluntary network-blocking framework for providers, and the Canadians who rely on them for internet access?
