CANADIANS CONNECTED 2022
CIRA’s symposium and annual general meeting
Thursday, September 15, 2022
12:30 p.m. ET.

Speakers

The continuing advances of the digital revolution can be dazzling, but in many ways their lights, bells and whistles have made us blind and deaf to the ways high-tech giants exploit our personal data for their own gain. Some say that personal data has emerged as the world’s dominant currency—and no one has leveraged it better than the tech giants behind web searches and social media accounts. Canada’s privacy commissioner has repeatedly warned of the growing dangers of surveillance capitalism and that the newest frontier of surveillance capitalism is artificial intelligence (AI). What is at risk if we don’t stand up to high-tech giants and demand stricter controls on type of data that can be collected, and how that data is used?
